Honeybees may be wiped out in 10 years.

Organically grown bees, which is to say bees not allowed to feed on genetically modified plants, are not suffering from the problems seen in bees located near GM crop fields.
There is evidence that strongly suggests that the modified gene used to make plants create their own natural pesticides has spliced with the DNA of the bees' digestive bacteria, turning the bees' entire digestive system into a poison manufacturing system, which the bees cannot survive. Which may explain why the research got shelved. MAIN ARTICLE

Moved By The Bees: A Childhood Memory by Sandra Hughes

"I’d note the presence of honeybees deeply engaged in their own communion with these humble flowers, find a mason jar, punch holes in its metal lid, and place a cushion of green grass with clover heads in the bottom of the jar. Then I’d remove my sneakers and begin a barefoot dance in a slow, spiral motion. When my playmates saw me do this, they instinctively stopped their activities, moved out of the way and sat expectantly at a distance."

Sandra was recently awarded 1st prize in the Earth Vision Writing Contest 2007 for an expanded version of her article Moved by the Bees.
