Michael E. Hickey

Michael is the resident mask maker at The
MASK Center in Atlanta, Georgia. This exhibit features
theatrical masks that he has created for Sandra Hughes'
plays and performance pieces during the last 27 years.
Michael's mask creations have twice won First Place and
Best of Show at the National Maskibition in Eureka,
California. His masks have been exhibited at galleries
and museums including the High Museum of Art in Atlanta
and the Iowa State Art Museum. Michael's work is also
part of a permanent collection at the Corcoran Gallery
in Washington, D.C. In 2007 The City of Atlanta
presented a major exhibit of his work at the Chastain
Art Gallery.
Michael has also designed masks for the Center For
Puppetry Arts, Emory University Theater, Atlanta
Shakespeare Company, Daystar Native American Dance
Theater and the Galeria de Guadalupana in Chimayo, New
Mexico.
He received his visual art training at the Cleveland
Institute of Art, the Cooper School of Arts in
Cleveland, and Georgia State University.
